PURPOSE: A device and method for regulating the tension of a belt is provided to detect the condition of tension to the motion of a V-belt that connects an engine of a large bus with an air compressor, mechanically generate pneumatic pressure storage tensioning/compressing signals, and accordingly restore the tension of the V-belt by tensioning or compressing a pneumatic pressure storage with pneumatic pressure. CONSTITUTION: A device for regulating the tension of a belt(12) is composed of the belt connecting an engine driving pulley with an air compressor-driven pulley; a pulley(20) supporting the belt at a predetermined position; an under bracket(21) supporting the pulley; a lower bracket(22) mounted to the upside of a vehicle frame(23); a pneumatic pressure storage(30) arranged between the under and lower brackets and tensioned or compressed by pneumatic pressure; a control valve(50) of which the position is changed to control signals and the control valve supplying or exhausting pneumatic pressure to/out of the pneumatic pressure storage; an air hose(40) disposed between the control valve and the pneumatic pressure storage to supply or exhaust pneumatic pressure, which is supplied from the control valve, to/out of the pneumatic pressure storage; and a position detecting device(32) installed at a predetermined position of the pneumatic pressure storage to detect the tension variation of the belt.
