PURPOSE: A method for interfacing a UTOPIA level2 ATM mode with a UTOPIA level1 PHY(Physical) mode is provided to support a UTOPIA level 2 PHY mode and the UTOPIA level1 PHY mode by mixing the supported modes with the UTOPIA level2 ATM mode, thereby flexibly setting a system. CONSTITUTION: An interface processor monitors a state of a UTOPIA level1 PHY mode(S100), and receives a polling signal for selecting the UTOPIA level1 PHY mode from a UTOPIA level2 ATM mode(S200). The interface processor decides whether the state of the UTOPIA level1 PHY mode is capable of transceiving data(S300). If so, the interface processor transmits a response signal to the UTOPIA level2 ATM mode and the UTOPIA level1 PHY mode, and approves the data transceiving(S400).
