PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an adsorbing force between a slider main body in which projections are disposed on the medium facing surface of a magnetic disk side and a rail, and a magnetic disk. SOLUTION: A magnetic head slider includes a magnetic head core disposed in the slider main body 10 and rails 12 and 12 disposed on the medium facing surface of the magnetic disk 71 side of the main body 10 to generate a floating force, and floats and travels with respect to the magnetic disk 71 to write/read magnetic information. Projections 17, 18 and 19 are disposed on at least the rails 12 and 12 among the medium facing surface of the main body 10 and the rails along the longitudinal direction of the main body. Each projection is constructed by alternately laminating a middle film 63 made of Si or SiC and a carbon film 64. The height of the projection 18 disposed in a position nearest the magnetic head core among the projections is lower than the projection 19 disposed in a position adjacent to the projection 18 by an amount equal to the alternate lamination of the middle film 63 and the carbon film 64.
