PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assist users in making information retrieval, etc., more efficient by organizing information sources such as web servers on the basis of similarity among the information sources. SOLUTION: A set provided with previously defined letters or letter strings as elements is prepared. A means 112 is provided for finding distribution of percentages of information providing units, as profiles of the information sources, with which each element of the set comes into existence with respect to each of the information sources. A means 113 is provided for finding similarity among information sources by comparing profiles of the information sources with each other and reorganizing relation of similarity among a plurality of information sources. Further, a means 114 is provided for inputting sequential words and selecting a prescribed number of words (characteristic words) characterizing the information sources based on the similarity among the information sources.
