PURPOSE: A method for calculating the coefficient of the equalizer and an apparatus for calculating the same are provided to improve the channel short effect of the time region equalizer, thereby reducing the interference between the symbols and the interference between the channels as well as improving the signal to noise ratio of the communication system. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for calculating the coefficient of the equalizer includes an estimator for estimating the frequency response of the upstream region and a calculator for calculating the coefficient of the time region equalizer from the estimated frequency response of the upstream region and the frequency response of the down stream region. The estimator includes a phase estimator for estimating the phase response of the upstream region and an amplitude estimator for estimating the amplitude response of the upstream region.
