Disclosed is an opening roller (7, 12a) for an opener unit (4, 4') of a textile machine, especially a carding machine (1) or cleaning machine. Said opening roller (7, 12a) comprises a clothing (52) that is disposed on the outer surface (51) thereof for combing out fiber flocks (FF) from a fiber material (FM, FM') provided as tuft (FB) by means of a clamping feeding mechanism (6, 11). At least one first-sided guiding element (54, 55) is arranged in a first boundary section (51) of the outer surface (51) bordering the first face (53a) of the opening roller (7, 12a) while at least one second-sided guiding element (56, 57) is placed in a second boundary section (51b) of the outer surface (51) bordering the other face (53b) of the opening roller (7, 12a). The at least one first-sided guiding element (54, 55) and the at least one second-sided guiding element (56, 57) are configured and positioned so as to respectively engage into the tuft (FB) during operation of the opening roller (7, 12a) and thus direct the fiber material (FM, FM') to the center of the outer surface (51) by rotating in the designated direction of travel.
