Each position on a multi-position textile machine, e.g. a false twist machine with crossed belts twisting (5), is separately driven by synchronized induction motors (53, 54). The motors are supplied through switches (55) from an inverter (21). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A similar arrangement but with two inverters, one for starting and one for running; (2) An arrangement with three inverters, i.e. a starter inverter, a running inverter and a relay inverter to bridge the gap; (3) An arrangement with a running inverter and an auxiliary inverter with switchgear to assist in bringing individual motors up to speed (4) An arrangement in which the motors are supplied in groups from a single inverter; (5) An arrangement with a single inverter where each spindle can be started through star-delta switchgear Instrumentation is fitted to assist in starting individual motors and bringing them up to synchronous running speed.
