A category-based message transmission method, a message reception method, and a message merging method are provided to merge messages by classifying the messages according to each category, and to separate desired messages of a user among individual messages within the merged messages to store the separated messages, thus messages can be easily managed. A message writing screen is displayed by a message writing request(S610,S620). A message is written through the screen, and a category setup request of the message is inputted(S630). A category setup menu screen for setting categories of the message are displayed according to the request(S640). If a particular category is selected on the screen, a tag for defining the selected category is generated(S650). If a message transmission request exists, the tag is included in a header or trailer part of the message to send the message(S660,S670).
