The cooker and hob has a hot plate (2) and associated solid fuel furnace (17). The hot plate is mounted to move or swivel from a horizontal working position above the furnace opening (17') into a rest position whereby either the hotplate or furnace is directly accessible through the opening from the outside depending on the position of the hot plate. A locking mechanism locks the hot plate in the work position and preferably also in the rest position.
