<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an amorphous carbon body which has surface conditions in which the occurrence of cracks is suppressed, and free from fractures and chippings. <P>SOLUTION: A resin material is subjected to molding, and the obtained molding is subjected to heat treatment before carbonizing and firing. The heat treatment is performed in the temperature range of 100 to 300°C in an oxidizing atmosphere having an oxygen concentration of ≥100 ppm.
