<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic steering system in which a switching can be certainly carried out regardless of a steering amount of a steering, a responsiveness of this switching is good and an energy loss is not generated in the case where the steering is switched to a manual steering at the time of automatic steering; and to provide an automatic steering system capable of retaining this switched position when the steering is switched from the automatic steering to the manual steering. <P>SOLUTION: A valve position sensor S is provided on a direction control valve 19 as a detection means for detecting a switched position of the direction control valve 19. A position signal of the direction control valve 19 detected by this valve position sensor S is inputted to a controller E.
