The invention relates to vehicle engineering and can be used in order to improve the safety of cars and passengers. The inventive device comprises a front bumper whose front wall is made of brittle material. An inflatable elastic chamber (5) whose volume is larger than the volume of the bumper is arranged therein. A driver pushes an emergency knob prior to the collision against an obstacle. A gas generator (12) is actuated. When the pressure inside the inflatable elastic chamber (5) is raised, the front wall of the bumper is destroyed. When the impact against the obstacle is received by said inflatable elastic chamber (5), a recoil impact is produced.
