PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of recording a control signal with a very high degree of accuracy and obtaining timing information with a high degree of accuracy. SOLUTION: A disk magnetic recording medium having at least a magnetic layer is constituted in such a manner that a signal is pre-recorded by the combination of a first magnetized state area with a second magnetized state area on the magnetic layer, the sum of the peripheral direction lengths of the first and second magnetized state areas is increased from an inner periphery to an outer periphery roughly in proportion to a radial position, and the ratio of the peripheral direction length of the first magnetized state to the peripheral direction length of the second magnetized state area is uniformly changed in accordance with the radial direction.
