PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately control a screw tightening torque by adequately detecting hammer strokes, in an impact rotary tool. SOLUTION: This impact rotary tool 1 includes: a drive section 3 having a motor 31, the hammer 33 receiving the rotary force of the motor 31 transmitted through a speed reduction gear 32, an anvil 34 applied with the rotary force by hit of the hammer 33, and an output shaft 35 for transmitting the rotary force of the anvil 34 to a screw; a grip section 4 extending approximately perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the drive section 3; a stroke detection sensor 5 detecting strokes by the hammer 33; and a control section 6 controlling the screw tightening torque by stopping the motor 31 according to information on the number of strokes and a stroke interval acquired from a result detected by the stroke detection sensor 5.
