PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk cartridge which can be surely positioned in a prescribed direction relative to a disk drive during insertion into the disk drive and can record and reproduce information. SOLUTION: A housing 12 has an outer marginal shape consisting of an arc along the contour of a magnetic disk and two straight lines circumscribing the circle along the contour of the magnetic disk and intersecting orthogonally with each other. The outside surfaces of two side walls 21 and 22 extending to a straight form delineating the corner of the housing 12 overhang slightly outward from the circumscribing line of the outer peripheral surface of the peripheral wall 20b drawing the circle along the contour of the magnetic disk adjacent thereto and the top edges of the two side walls 21 and 22 project from the top surface of the surface plate section of the housing 12.
