PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo canceller capable of removing echoes of an input signal wide in a frequency range without deteriorating the communication quality. SOLUTION: The echo canceller is provided with a noise generator 3 for generating noises in a prescribed frequency range, a switch 4 for connecting an output of the generator 3 to reception signal lines in order to overlap the noises generated by the generator 3 on the reception signal, and a timer 5 for opening the switch 4 to stop overlap of noises on the reception signal at the lapse of a prescribed time, after an adaptive filter 1 starts a converging operation of a filter coefficient.
