Liquid nitrogen is used for fire extinguishing, in finely divided form, so as to prevent further oxygen supply and thus starve the fire out. Sprays or jets in the ceiling are best for supplying the nitrogen which can be stored without pressure. Otherwise the nitrogen can be vaporised into an air supply from fan or blower to the seat of the fire.
