PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional lead storage battery such as that only a specified cell is subjected to overdischarge or overcharge by irregularities of performance of storage batteries or irregularities of temperature distribution in every lead storage battery, and degradation in the performance of the battery (cell) takes place in an early stage, resulting in degradation in the performance of a battery pack in its early stage due to one defecting cell, because usually a large number of single cells are connected in lead storage batteries for use in an electric-motor vehicle such as a forklift. SOLUTION: In a method of controlling the charge and discharge of control valve system of lead storage batteries, the charge and discharge of the battery pack are controlled where control valve system of lead storage battery multicells using Pb-Ca alloy for positive electrode lattices are combined with one another, based on the state detection data in every block (block storage battery) consisting of several cells. An alarm signal and/or an output drop signal for lightening the load of the storage battery is sent to the vehicle body during running, according to the residual capacity of the storage battery so as to prevent the overdischarge. Furthermore, charging of some what insufficient charge is performed, and a direction for recovery charge is issued, according to the state of the storage battery. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
