High frequency antenna for a magnetic resonance system has a number of antenna rods (10) arranged circumferentially around a central axis (12) and at equal distances. The rods are joined by end rings (11) at both ends. With the rods parallel to the axis or inclined at an angle to it the distance between rods at the narrowest end of the cylinder and the axis (ds) is less than that between the end ring and the axis (dr). The rod separation is between 25 and 35 cm and is 5 to 15 mm less than the end ring distance.
