The vehicle body part has an outer skin consisting of an externally coated sheet metal part (10) produced in a coil-coating process, a support structure (19) connected to the inner side of the sheet metal part via an intermediate layer (18), and a sealing layer (20) on the side of the support structure furthest from the sheet metal part. The support structure, intermediate layer and sealing layer are pressed together to form a composite component. The edge of the sheet metal part is completely embedded in the plastic material of at least one of the layers and/or in the plastic introduced in the edge (12) during pressing.
