PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dimmer element of which the light transmittance is high without voltage application and the light is scattered and the light transmittance is low with voltage application, that is to say, which is provided with high contrast between cases without and with voltage application. SOLUTION: The reverse mode liquid crystal dimmer element is provided with a liquid crystal-polymer composite body containing a polymer resulting from polymerization of polymerizable compounds including a compound with a terphenylene group and a liquid crystal. The liquid crystal dimmer element is provided with the terphenylene group. Consequently even through a content of the polymerizable compounds is increased for the purpose of heightening contrast of the liquid crystal dimmer element, a liquid crystal temperature range of a mixture of the polymerizable compounds and the liquid crystal is not narrowed and remains wide and therefore sealing in and polymerization of the mixture of the polymerizable compounds and the liquid crystal are carried out in a wide temperature range.
