PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for optimizing pressure-pinching force without producing the trial slip to a continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: This controller for continuously variable transmission transmits power between an input member and an output member through a transmission member pinched by the input member and the output member. The controller is provided with a power transmission relation detecting means for acquiring correlation with the physical quantity related with the relative slide between the input member, the output member and the transmission member, and the power transmitted between the input member and the output member (step S7), and a predetermined control directing means for directing the predetermined control related with the continuously variable transmission based on the correlation acquired by the power transmission relation detecting means (steps S11, S12, S13).
