PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting system A for achieving a large starting torque for a predetermined start condition and performing cranking corresponding to a load change. SOLUTION: When a starting signal 40 is inputted in an eco-run mode, an ECU 4 of the engine starting system A actuates a disconnection relay 2 to open a normally-closed contact 21 and disconnect on-board batteries 6, 7. A duty signal for obtaining maximum duty is outputted to a control element 3 to first generate magnetic field flux. A starter relay 50 is put into operation to actuate a direct-current motor 1. Cranking is performed with a current value and a current direction of field current flowing through a filed winding 13 being controlled by the control element 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
