PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing surface modified particles which can stably produce noncrosslinked polypropylene based resin foamed particles capable of achieving mutual fusing of the foamed particles with steam of a low temperature and giving a foamed particle-molded product having high rigidity (high compressive strength), and a method for industrially advantageously producing the noncrosslinked polypropylene resin based foamed particles from the surface modified particles. SOLUTION: The method for obtaining the substantially noncrosslinked surface modified particles by maintaining a dispersion formed by dispersing polypropylene based resin particles in a dispersion medium in which an organic peroxide is present at a temperature which is lower than the melting point of a base material resin of the resin particles and, simultaneously, allows the organic peroxide to be decomposed is characterized in that the weight ratio of the resin particles to the dispersion medium is≤1.3.
