PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a position and a posture without being affected by magnetic field, atmospheric pressure, temperature and the like, based on a plurality of optical information sources arranged on an object surface. SOLUTION: Object recognition having a space resolution for three- dimensional position and three-dimensional posture is realized using a photographed image with a two-dimensional image sensor, by attaching a plurality of pieces of optical discrimination information onto the object. For example, three or four markers are arranged on the surface of the measuring object, and positions of the markers are traced in an image-picked-up image. An optimum three-dimensional position and posture estimating algorithm is selected in response to the number of the detected markers and a positional relation thereof to measure the three-dimensional position and posture of the measuring object.
