PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing 3-amino-6-nitrocoumarin on an industrial scale at a low cost. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for the production of 3- amino-6-nitrocoumarin expressed by formula (2) by the cyclization of a 2-(4- nitrophenoxyimino)propanoic acid ester of general formula (1) (R is a 1-4C alkyl, phenyl or tosyl) in the presence of an acid and to a 2-(4- nitrophenoxyimino)propanoic acid to be used in the production method.
