PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high shape stability under usage load conditions in spite of a low cost and light weight by using materials suiting recycling. SOLUTION: The tatami mat base 5 is formed by covering a pair of polyester films with a thickness of 50-200μm and a METSUKE (basis weight) of 100-450 g/m<SP>2</SP>applied or impregnated with polyethylene on both front and back faces of a core material with a thickness of 2-30 mm and a METSUKE (basis weight) of 2-5 kg/m<SP>2</SP>comprising an aggregate of mixing 60-80 wt.% of polyester fiber and 20-40 wt.% of a double fiber binder formed by winding or covering polyester based fiber on an outer circumference of polyester fiber with a higher melting point than the polyester based fiber, and conducting thermo compression bonding by hot press and cold press. For example, 11 mm is suitable for the thickness of the core material 2. A tatami mat thickness can be changed by changing the thickness of the core material 2, but it is preferable that an entire thickness of the thin tatami mat 1 is small. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
