PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photothermographic material having enhanced sensitivity without increasing fog. SOLUTION: The photothermographic material comprises a support having thereon one or more layers comprising a binder and, in reactive association, a. a preliminarily formed photosensitive silver halide, b. a supply source of a reducible non-photosensitive silver ion, c. a reducing composition for the reducible silver ion and d. a selenium chemical sensitizer represented by the formula Se(L)<SB>m</SB>(X<SP>1</SP>)<SB>n</SB>, M(L')<SB>s</SB>(X<SP>2</SP>)<SB>r</SB>or (Z)<SB>w</SB>M'<SB>x</SB>Se<SB>y</SB>(CO)<SB>z</SB>(where X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, L, m, n, M, L', s, r, Z, M', x, y, z and w are as defined in the specification).
