<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic amorphous porous substance of a uniform pore shape having a small particle size, to provide sol thereof and a method or synthesizing the same, and an application thereof, particularly an ink jet recording medium excellent in ink-absorbing properties, transparency, water- resistance and light resistance, and a coating liquid for the ink jet recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The porous substance comprises an amorphous inorganic particle having a pore of a uniform diameter, where the average particle size DL of the particle is 10-400 nm as measured by the dynamic light scattering method and the difference SB-SL between the reduced specific surface area SL obtained from DL and the nitrogen adsorption specific surface area SB of the particle by the BET method is at least 250 m<SP>2</SP>/g. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
