The starch polymer is derived from an amylopectin-type starch obtained from potatoes which have been genetically modified to inhibit amylose-type starch formation. A water-based sizing composition comprises (A) at least one hydrophobic cellulose-reactive sizing agent comprising a mixture of alkylketene dimer and alkenyl succinic anhydride, and (B) an anionic, cationic or amphoteric polymer derived from starch. An amylopectin-type starch is used, obtained from potatoes which have been genetically modified to inhibit amylose-type starch formation. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for making sized paper or board using this sizing composition; and (b) sized paper or board made using this composition. |
