PURPOSE: A front-illuminating device and a reflective-type liquid crystal display including the same are provided to increase utilization efficiency of the light of a light source, and to uniformly and brightly illuminate an illuminated material. CONSTITUTION: A front-illuminating device(20) comprises a light source(26) and a light guide body(24) installed on the front face of an illuminated material. The light guide body(24) comprises: an incident surface(25) to which the light from the light source(26) is projected; a first exit surface(28) for the light to exit toward the illuminated material; and a second exit surface(23) which is opposed to the first exit surface(28) for the reflected light from the illuminated material to exit. The second exit surface(23) is formed by alternately arranging inclined parts(22) and flat parts(21) into the step-like structure. The light from the first exit surface(28) exiting toward the illuminated material is reflected by the illuminated material, the reflected light from the first exit surface(28) passes through the flat parts(21) and reaches the observer side. At this time, the component of the light of the light source(26), which is parallel to the flat parts(21), is reflected by the inclined parts(22) and irradiates the illuminated material.
