PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayered coating film forming method by which the formation of a mixed layer of an intermediate film with a base coating film is prevented and a coating film free from yellowing and having excellent appearance is formed in a 3-wet coating system aiming the reduction of coating process, cost saving and the decrease of environmental load. SOLUTION: In the multilayered coating film forming method including a process (1) of applying a water based intermediate coating material on a material to be coated on which an electrodeposition coating film is formed to form an uncured intermediate coating film, a process (2) of applying a water based base coating material to form an uncured base coating film, a process (3) of applying a clear coating material to form an uncured clear coating lime and a process of heating and curing the intermediate coating film, the base coating film and the clear coating film simultaneously to obtain the multilayered coating film, the intermediate coating film formed by the process (1) has≥10<SP>4</SP>Pa.s viscosity measured under a condition of 6.28 sec<SP>-1</SP>share rate and 30°C measuring temperature before the process (2) is carried out.
