PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a printer having a plurality of interfaces is set with a fixed value according to an interface having a highest power consumption with regard to electric energy capable to recording one page, and since an alarm of residual power is displayed at some interface even if the residual power is sufficient for print operation, the printer cannot perform print operation. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder having a plurality of interfaces for communication with a host unit, and a table listing electric energies corresponding to respective interfaces and performing communication for recording operation by receiving power supply from a battery and bringing a specified interface into effective state comprises a means for monitoring the residual quantity of the battery, a means for comparing the residual quantity with the value of electric energy corresponding to the interface, and a control means for switching the interface if the residual quantity is less than the electric energy.
