The coupling comprises a hollow nipple (17) protruding from the connection piece (6) and in communication with an outlet hole (13) in this piece. The pipe (11) can be inserted into a cavity around the outlet hole and this cavity is defined by a ring. A truncated cone-shaped washer (7) can be inserted into the nipple and pressed around the pipe to form a vacuum-tight connection between the inside of the pipe and the ring. - A vacuum-tight coupling between a tube or pipe and a connection piece such as a flange (12) comprises a hollow nipple protruding from the connection piece and in communication with an outlet hole in this piece. The hole is surrounded by a concentric cavity with internal and external dimensions chosen so that the pipe can be slid into it. The cavity is defined by a ring with a free end forming a seal with the pipe, the external diameter of the ring being slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the pipe. A washer with a truncated cone shape can be inserted into the nipple and the internal diameter of the cone is slightly larger than the external diameter of the pipe so that the latter can be slid into it. The length of the washer is chosen so that when it is pressed against the connection piece at the inner end of the nipple, the narrow end of the washer is located next to the free end of the ring. A compression device made from hard metal is used to compress and deform the washer and comprises a press piece (8) and a threaded part (9) with a hole. The threaded part can be screwed onto the nipple in order to apply pressure to the connection piece and press piece, causing the washer to deform around the pipe at the free end of the ring, creating a vacuum- tight connection between the inside of the pipe and the ring. |
