PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved hydraulic control system for a continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: This electro/hydraulic control for a continuously variable transmission includes a first regulating valve to be controlled to provide a high- pressure output to control a ratio inside of the continuously variable transmission and a second regulating valve to be controlled to provide the engaging pressure for toque transmitting mechanisms provided in the transmission. The control decides a priority order of fluid flow on the basis of multiple communication with valve forming elements, detects a priority operation mode, protects the valve from the excessive pressure, and ensures a minimum of fluid flow to the torque transmitting mechanisms and an oil cooler.
