<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method with which a natural fiber is bleached while keeping natural oil and fat such as cotton wax attached to the surface of raw cotton. <P>SOLUTION: Raw cotton having natural oil and fat attached to the surface is brought into contact with an aqueous solution for bleaching containing a hydroxyl-percarboxylic acid such as perlactic acid. The aqueous solution for bleaching may contain a hydroxycarboxylic acid, hydrogen peroxide or an alkali agent besides the hydroxy-percarboxylic acid. Lactic acid, citric acid and/or tartaric acid is used as the hydroxycarboxylic acid. Sodium hydroxide is suitable as the alkali agent. Non-defatted bleached cotton obtained by the method is used for a puff or a cotton swab. The non-defatted bleached cotton is used as a constituent fiber as it is to give a nonwoven fabric or a spun yarn. The nonwoven fabric is preferably used as a surface material for a napkin, a diaper, etc., a scum removing sheet or a wiping cloth. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
