PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program control method that can achieve a standby state of a computer by slightly modifying an existing boot loader without using an APM (advanced power management) or an ACPI (advanced configuration and power management interface) and without making a change to an OS itself. SOLUTION: The program control method has: a step (a) that retrieves a jump code during starting of the OS; a step (b) that initializes hardware to perform loader processing if the jump code is not acquired in the step (a); a step (c) that performs the loader processing without initializing the hardware if the jump code is acquired in the step (a); a step (d) that brings the computer 20 to the standby state after the step (c); a step (e) that shifts from the standby state to an operating state of the computer if a prescribed hardware interrupt occurs; and a step (f) that initializes the OS after the step (b) or the step (e).
