PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DPCM operation method for reducing the size of difference data, a data-encoding method and a device which uses it. SOLUTION: The DPCM operation method is provided with (a) a step which generates the difference data by doing the DPCM operation to a quantized data and generates a predictive difference data by doing a predictive DPCM operation, (b) a step which conducts cyclic quantization operation to make a range of the difference data narrow to the difference data and generates a cyclic quantized difference data and a cycle quantized prediction difference data, and (c) a step which selects either the cyclic quantized difference data or the predictive difference data, according to the size of the difference data.
