The method involves assigning delayed and non-delayed video signals to two different processing channels, by determining amplitude of signals. In each processing channel the absolute value of the difference between the video signals is generated, and a maximum of the absolute values is calculated for respective search window. A minimum is determined from the maxima in each processing channel. Independent claims are included for : (1) a noise component determination circuit; and (2) a film scanner equipped with a noise component determination circuit.
