The device has at least one memory metal actuator for producing the desired forces for using the door lock. The memory metal actuator produces the forces for locking the door lock when it is in the locked state and/or for releasing the door lock when it is in the locked state. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method of operating a unit for door lock of a domestic appliance; (2) a door lock for a domestic device; and (3) a control unit for the door lock.
