The thermosiphon system includes a collector in which a heat transfer medium is brought to a high temperature level, and a horizontally disposed storage tank (3) installed above the collector. A supply line (11) protrudes into the storage tank and extends along the bottom region of the tank over almost its whole length. The supply line has a number of passages (18) for fresh water over its length lying inside the storage tank. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the operating of a thermosiphon system in which during the withdrawal of hot water from the storage tank for a consumer and simultaneous feed of fresh cold water to the tank there is maintained at least two water layers at different temperatures.
