The invention relates to the use of a first nucleic acid for determining the predisposition for the expression or heredity of the quantitative characteristic of inverted nipples in a mammal, whereby the first nucleic acid has a length of at least 8 nucleotides and is identical or essentially identical to a second nucleic acid, which is present in the region of microsatellite S0220 on pig chromosome 6 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals; or of microsatellite SW2443 on pig chromosome 2 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals; or of microsatellite S0097 on pig chromosome 4 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals; or of microsatellite S0007 on pig chromosome 14 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals; or of microsatellite SW1301 on pig chromosome 1 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals; or of microsatellite S0164 on pig chromosome 3 or in a homologous position in the genome of other mammals. The invention also relates to a method for determining the predisposition for the expression or heredity of the quantitative characteristic of inverted nipples in mammals, especially in pets, breeding animals and domestic cattle, wherein the mammals, and the fertilised or non-fertilised eggs thereof or the sperm thereof are tested in the presence of, constitution of or expression of the above-mentioned second nucleic acid. The invention further relates to a kit containing at least one primer pair for the amplification of the second nucleic acid mentioned above, whereby a primer respectively binds to the + strand and another primer binds to the strand of the nucleic acid, or a hybridisation probe having a length of at least 8 nucleotides which bind to the above-mentioned second nucleic acid, or a specific anti-body or an anti-body fragment which bind to the second above-mentioned nucleic acid. |
