PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a planar display device which hardly allows air bubbles to remain in a fired compact of fritted glass. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the planar display device consists of (A) a process step of shaping fritted glass powder to a block shape by heating the powder under a vacuum and pressurization to obtain a fritted glass block, (B) a process step of obtaining a fritted glass material 30A by cutting and working the fritted glass block, (C) a process step of arranging the fritted glass material 30A between the peripheral edges of two basal plates CP and AP, and (D) a process step of firing the fritted glass material 30A and joining the peripheral edges of the two basal plates CP and AP by the fired compact of the fritted glass.
