PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single magnetic pole head wherein record bleeding is small and a reduction in an effective track width is prevented even when there is a yoke angle in a perpendicular magnetic recording single magnetic pole head, and a magnetic disk drive on which the head is mounted. SOLUTION: A main pole is constituted of at least two portions. The first portion 41 is formed such that a width is continuously increased from the upstream side of a medium moving direction 44 to the downstream side, the second portion 42 is formed to be a width equal to that of the downstream side of the medium moving direction of the first portion, and a width is kept constant from the upstream side of the medium moving direction to the downstream side. Thus, since a reduction in a recording magnetic field at a track edge is prevented, and an effective track width is enlarged while record bleeding is suppressed, the magnetic disk drive of a high track density is provided.
