PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To update metadata independently of whether or not an apparatus for processing contents is capable of processing the metadata when the apparatus applies processing to the contents. SOLUTION: When the information processing apparatus edits the contents to which metadata including meta-metadata (3-e, f, l, r) to indicate edit contents giving effect on the validity of the metadata are attached, the information processing apparatus references the meta-metadata to discriminate the validity of respective metadata items. For example, when the information processing apparatus performs sepia processing, since the color tone is revised, the metadata items of the Dominant Color is discriminated to be ineffective according to the description 3-e. The metadata items discriminated to be ineffective (e.g. metadata items 3-c to 3-i of the dominant color) are deleted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
