A method of manufacturing shaped bodies, in particular fibreboard, chipboard or like boards is disclosed, in which fibres admixed with a binder, particles containing cellulose admixed with a binder, or particles containing lignocellulose admixed with a binder, or particles containing lignocellulose admixed with a binder are scattered to form a mat and preheated before the mat is pressed to the shaped body while supplying heat and pressure, characterized in that the preheating of the mat consisting of the pre-compacted or pre-presses fibres or particles takes place by the supply of thermal energy from the interior of the mat outwardly to the surface of the mat. An apparatus to carry out the method is also disclosed.
