<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor in which image memories to be consumed in the image processor are suppressed to a minimum and another image processing can be made possible by using sufficient image memories. <P>SOLUTION: A color image deciding circuit 111 acquires pixel values for four YMCK colors of image data stored in an image memory 105 and on the basis of the acquired pixel values of pixel data, the data are converted into a uniform color difference space such as CIELAB or CIEXYZ space and in respect to the pixel data after the color space conversion, the color difference of color components is calculated. Then, the found color difference is compared with a threshold and when the color difference is greater than the threshold, such an image is decided as a color image but when the color difference of all the pixel data is equal to or lower than the set threshold, such image data are decided as monochromatic images.
