Adhesion promotion for coating glass by monitoring and altering the pH of the substrate surface prior to application of the adhesion promoter

Methods of coating surfaces using adhesion promoting agents wherein an adhesion promoting-agent is applied to the surface of the substrate before the coating is applied. The method includes the steps of washing the substrate surface prior to application of the adhesion-promoter, monitoring the pH of the washing liquid at the substrate surface and modifying the pH of the substrate surface to enhance the promotion of adhesion by the adhesion promoter.
