PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability in an image processor. SOLUTION: Whether a CODEC-2 device 1022 on a RIP board 230 can be used or not is determined, and when determining that the device 1022 can not be used, a CODEC-1 device 1011 on a controller board 1000 is substituted for the device 1022, so that even in an unusable state of the device 1022 on the RIP board 230, required encoding processing can be performed.
