PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which the occurrence of an abnormal image such as omission in transfer can be prevented by improving the abrasion resistance of an image carrier without regard to the magnitude of an image area and by supplying a lubricate without taking time so as to lower the surface energy of the image carrier to improve a transfer ratio. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: an image carrier 10; a development apparatus 12 for developing an electrostatic latent image of the image carrier by using a developer containing the lubricate; and the lubricate supply carrying out means 65 for supplying the lubricant to the image carrier by allowing the development apparatus to stick the developer separately from a developing purpose. Then, during the power removal operation of the image carrier until the image carrier is stopped after finishing developing operation to a latent image corresponding to the final transfer sheet of a single job, the lubricate supply carrying out means supplies the lubricant to the image carrier by allowing the development apparatus to stick the developer separately from the developing purpose.
